Agreement of Jardine Matheson and Eugenio de Otadui, 1846-circa 1848
A memorandum of agreement between M.A. Macleod, acting attorney or agent for Jardine, Matheson & Co. of Hong Kong, and Eugenio de Otadui, sole partner of E. de Otadui & Co., of the arrangements for avoiding the latter's bankruptcy, the company being indebted to Jardine Matheson and others, dated Manila, 1 May 1846. There is also a second document, in Portuguese, dated Manila 30 April 184[8].

Bond of Charles Magniac, 1822-1823
A bond (in Portuguese) of Charles Magniac to Joaquim de Souza for the sum of 12,000 patacas, dated Macao, 26 November 1822. A note added to the bond on 21 November 1823 records that the debt been settled. An English note on the back of the document describes it as a bond to the Bishop of Macao.

Chinese documents, 1766-1935
This series consists of a wide range of business, legal and official Chinese documents dating mainly from the nineteenth century, particularly from the first half of the century. Many of the papers concern or are connected to Jardine, Matheson & Co. and its members. There are also a few items in English, French, Japanese, Parsi, Portuguese and Spanish (in the catalogue the documents are in Chinese unless otherwise stated).

The dates are given MCCCL (1350) : MDCCCCL (1850 is MDCCCL so the date has been estimated as 1950). The badge is decorated with the Portuguese national coat of arms. Joseph Needham’s name is printed in the ‘window’ at the bottom of the badge.

The correspondence comprises 2 letters from Stoakley; copy of 1 letter from Joseph Needham.
The documents also include a photocopy of the letter which was in the possession of K. K. Knight of Cambridge; Needham's notes.
